Hi my name is Blair Fallis, I’m the Eastman Development Coordinator. I’m also the President of Rat River Minor Hockey. I have been involved with the Eastman Development programs for 7 years, as a host for the February Development weekend (in St-Pierre-Jolys) as well as my own 2 boys. This program was the start for them in gaining valuable life skills by meeting, competing with or against kids from all over this region. Eastman is proud of their efforts to allow our young hockey players (male and female) the opportunities to get to know and make friends with fellow players across the region within the Development Programs, Bantam AA, and the All Star opportunities, as well as to have the opportunity to progress and develop as referees and coaches. These opportunities translate to respect on the ice for each other and believe me I’ve have seen it. After all, in not too many years these are the same people they will be going to college, university or working with, and probably be playing, refereeing, or coaching along side. As a parent these opportunities are available to you as well. It doesn’t take too long to realize that we all not so different and we all want the same for our kids. Besides, you have the opportunity to make more good friends as well as see some pretty good hockey.

I would like you to take this opportunity to take a look at the descriptions of the programs that effect you and consider joining the other families for the 12 Year Old Development (male & female), (13 – 14) Female Bantam Challenge, (15, 16, & 17) St-Pierre-Jolys and the (13) Male Directors Cup and the 15 Year Old Male POE in Pinawa February 4, 5, & 6, 2011. As well as our Goalie camp on the evening of February 3rd in Vita.

Eastman Development Coordinator

The Eastman Development Program for the past 8 years has also included those who officiate.  It is the ideal opportunity for officials to develop their skills while officiating the Development Games.  The officials for these games are based upon the recommendations by their Association Referee in Chief. Then based upon the number of games and the official’s own availability they are placed in games where Eastman supervisors will watch them and then work with them to improve their ability. Numerous officials within this Region have taken advantage of this opportunity to enhance their ability to officiate at higher levels of hockey and be selected by Hockey Manitoba for various assignments as well as have the opportunity to work various Elite hockey Leagues within the Province.

Eastman Referee in Chief

Every year Hockey Manitoba designates the first weekend in February as ‘Developmental Weekend’.

Eastman Minor Hockey continues to have one of the most progressive development programs in the province for referees and players, both female and male. We have the largest amount of players registered; second only to Winnipeg.  It is a huge task to schedule, maintain and administer.  We have had constant growth in our region and expect to see further growth in the coming years.  Eastman Minor Hockey continues to work toward improving our programs so that we can plan for the future.

All regions of the province (excluding Winnipeg) will be hosting tryout and evaluation camps.  During the course of these camps, in Eastman, officials who are on our development program are also evaluated and assessed during every one of these games. The officials are then also introduced to the concept of a Program of Excellence where they are given the opportunity to participate and be challenged in higher levels of hockey.
